IN MEMORY OF SERGEANT LIFE STUDENTS AND STAFF HELD A MEMORIAL TRIBUTE SERVICE AT LINKS TO MIDDLE SCHOOL ON FRIDAY, MARCH 10. STUDENTS FROM THE COLOR GUARD AND THE ELEMENTS CHOIR PERFORMED. IT WAS A WONDERFUL STUDENT TRIBUTE THAT ENDED WITH THE BALLOON RELEASED OUTSIDE OF THE SCHOOL.

HE WILL ALSO GRADUATE WITH HIS ASSOCIATES DEGREE AT AND A HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA IN THE SAME YEAR. AND HE'S GOING TO CONTINUE HIS WRESTLING CAREER WITH THE DIVISION I SCHOLARSHIP TO EDINBURGH'S COLLEGE AND PENNSYLVANIA HE IS ALSO FEATURED RECENTLY IN THE FOCUS DAILY NEWS WITH A HUGE SPREAD AND HE'S OFFICIALLY SUBMITTED IN SCHOOL HISTORY AS THE SCHOOLS FIRST WRESTLING STATE CHAMPION.

THE COMMUNITY CHALLENGE IS AN EIGHT WEEK HEALTH COMPOSITION. IT UNITES TEXANS AND ACTIVATES THE COMMUNITY CHAMPIONS TO JOIN THE MOVEMENT OF HEALTHY LIVING. PARTICIPANTS LOG HEALTHY ACTIONS DAILY AND WIN POINTS FOR THEIR LOCAL COMMUNITY AND THE SCHOOL DISTRICTS.

THEY COME TOGETHER AS INDIVIDUALS AND SCHOOLS TO ENGAGE IN HEALTHY LIVING.

THIS YEAR ALMOST 23,000 TEXANS FROM 423 COMMUNITIES ACROSS THE STATE REGISTERED TO EARN POINTS. LANCASTER ISD HAS USED THE COMMUNITY CHALLENGE OVER THE PAST SEVERAL YEARS AS AN INTERVENTION TO HELP THE DISTRICT PROMOTE HEALTHY LIVING. THIS IS LANCASTER'S ISD'S 30 YEAR IN A ROW.

BEING A WINNING SCHOOL DISTRICT. 30 YEAR PERIOD PEOPLE ARE SCARED. THE COMMUNITY CHALLENGE HAS ALLOWED LANCASTER TO START OFF THE YEAR PRIORITIZING HEALTHY LIVING AND THE MOMENTUM CONTINUES AS THE COMMUNITY STRIVES TO LIVE HEALTHIER LIVES. HERE ARE SOME STATISTICS.

LANCASTER ISD EARNED 1.2 MILLION POINTS BY ALLOWING ALMOST 10,000 HEALTHY ACTIONS.

WALKING YOUR DOG, EATING FRUITS AND VEGETABLES. THIS INCLUDES OVER 100,000 MINUTES OF PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AND YOU DRINK HUNDRED AND 60,000 OUNCES OF WATER.

TO ENCOURAGE HEALTHY LIVING AND HEALTHY HABITS WITHIN THE SCHOOL DISTRICT ALMOST 4000 HIGH-FIVES WERE GIVEN TO EACH OTHER IN THE COMMUNITY CHALLENGE APP.

I WANT TO THANK EACH PARTICIPANT FOR THEIR EFFORTS IN THEIR CONTINUOUS SUPPORT AND THEIR PARTNERSHIP OF LANCASTER ISD. A SPECIAL THANK YOU AND SHOT OUT TO COACH HARRISON AND SONJA BROWN FOR THEIR LEADERSHIP WITHIN THE DISTRICT.

OUR BLACK HISTORY BOARD TOOK PLACE AT THE END OF FEBRUARY. THIS YEAR'S THEME WAS FOR THE CULTURE AND COMMUNITY. IT IS A CELEBRATION OF BLACK HISTORY AND CULTURE.

WE WANT TO HIGHLIGHT OUR WINNERS. WEST MAIN IS THE ACADEMIC CHAMPIONS AND DANIEL WILLIAMS FROM LANCASTER MENISCAL PLACE FIRST IN THE CONTEST.

WE LEFT TO PROVIDE LEARNING EXPERIENCE FOR STUDENTS AND MOST RECENTLY GROUPS OF FIFTH-GRADERS FROM ACROSS THE DISTRICT TOOK FIELD TRIPS TO THE POT JOHN BUCKNER WITH CENTER IN FEBRUARY. THEY LEARNED ABOUT THE WETLAND ECOSYSTEM AND CREATED FOOD CHANGE AND IT HAD A GREAT TIME EXPLAIN. EARLY LAST MONTH LANCASTER ISD ISSUED LEARNING CHALLENGES TO OUR STUDENTS EACH DAY OF OUR STORM AND SNOW WEEK.

WE CONSIDER THOSE DAYS NOT OFF THE DAYS ON AND A THREE CHALLENGE STUDENTS TO TAKE HER UP AND COMPLETE THE ACTIVITIES AS WELL AS ENGLISH LESSONS AND MATH LESSONS.

WEST MAIN ELEMENTARY THIRD, FOURTH AND FIFTH GRADERS WHEN THE CHALLENGE AND RECEIVED A SCIENCE PARTY WITH THE LANCASTER ISD BOARD PRESIDENT MARIAN HAMILTON.

PRESIDENT HAMILTON'S SUPERINTENDENT STOPPED BY WEST MAIN ELEMENTARY AND SURPRISED THE STUDENTS WITH POPCORN AND THEY WERE EXTREMELY HAPPY. THEN LATER ON WEDNESDAY, MARCH 8 STUDENTS WITH LANCASTER HIGH SCHOOL ENJOYED A PIZZA PARTY WITH DOCTOR CARRERA FOR WINNING THE CHALLENGE. OUR DAYS OFF ARE STILL ON AND WE MAKE THE VERY BEST OF THEM.

AND FOR EMPLOYERS SEEKING TO PUT PEOPLE TO WORK. FOR YOUR STUDENTS THAT HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO PARTICIPATE IN DUAL CREDIT OR EARLY COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL TO REMOVE THAT BARRIER AND ENSURE THAT THEY GET COLLEGE CREDIT. HE SAW SOME OF THE STATISTICS EARLIER AND IT SAID ABOUT HOW LARGE WE WERE IN TEXAS WHERE THE THIRD-LARGEST COMMUNITY COLLEGE IN THE NATION AND REALLY PROUD TO HAVE LET THE WORK IN EARLY COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL DUAL CREDIT GETTING AHEAD OF THE CURVE BEFORE MANY OF OUR COLLEAGUES IN TERMS OF EXPANSION OF THAT PROGRAM. PART OF THE REASON WHY WE NEEDED TO GET AHEAD OF THE CURVE AND EXPANSION OF THAT PROGRAM WAS OUR DEMOGRAPHICS WITHIN OUR AREA.

THE IMPORTANT OF THE SLIDE IS THEY ARE DOING WELL. 80% OF THE STUDENTS ARE EARNING AN A, B OR AEC IN OUR COLLEGE CLASSES. THAT IS SOMETHING TO CELEBRATE.

THE STUDENTS USE THEIR CREATIVE AND IMAGINATIVE SKILLS AS WELL AS BUILD THEIR LITERACY SKILLS. STUDENTS MOVE FROM READING ABOUT A TOPIC TO BUILDING AND CREATING IN THE MEDIA. IT WAS ONCE SAID THAT IF YOU HAVE A LIBRARY COLLECTION OF 10,000 BOOKS BUT ONLY 1000 OF THEM GET USED KEEPING THAT IN MIND I STARTED EVALUATING THE LIBRARIES. AFTER EVALUATING EVERY COLLECTION I FOUND THAT BETWEEN 1500 AND 2000 BOOKS ON EACH CAMPUS COULD BE WEEDED BECAUSE THEY WERE BEING USED.

I'VE DONE THIS TO REPORTS IN OUR LIBRARY PROGRAM AND I'VE EVALUATED THEM WITH THE COLLECTIONS FROM THE DATE OF THE LAST USE. SINCE MY LAST UPDATE IN FEBRUARY THE MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS TEAM HAS BEEN HARD AT WORK COMPLETING A NUMBER OF HIGH PRIORITY PROJECTS WITH A FEW MAJOR ONES BEING THE TOP DRESSING OF THE BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL FIELDS. INSTALLING NEW KITCHEN EQUIPMENT AND ALSO GETTING THROUGH DISTRICTWIDE LED LIGHTING ASSESSMENTS WITH THE SKYLIGHT IN SECTIONS AND ROSA PARK ELEMENTARY. AT THE END OF LAST SCHOOL YEAR WE HAD A LARGE HVAC PROJECT STARTING UP. OUR GREAT PRINCIPLES AND I WALKED THE CAMPUS TO PRIORITIZE THE ISSUES THEY HAD AND THEY HAD ONE MAJOR ITEM WHICH WAS ENHANCING THE EXTERIOR OF THE APPEARANCE. THAT INCLUDES THE PLAYGROUNDS AND OUR ENTRANCES WITH OUR STUDENTS MILES. CLASSROOMS WERE NOT EXCLUDED.

IT'S MOST CONCERNING FOR A FEW OF THE ELEMENTARIES FOR THE STATE OF THE RESTROOMS FROM THE WALLS FALLING APART TO TOILETS BEING BAGGED OVER DUE TO BEING OUT OF ORDER.

WE ALSO HAD TO REPAIR POTHOLES FROM THE BUS THOUGHT SO WE COULD PREVENT FURTHER DAMAGE TO OUR BUSES AND MAKE FOR SMOOTHER OPERATION. ANOTHER HIGH PRIORITY WAS THE CLUTTER RANDOMLY THROUGHOUT THE FACILITY AND CLEANING IT UP. ATHLETIC FACILITIES HAVE THE SAME ISSUES IN SOME AREAS ARE WORSE THAN OTHERS. WE PRIORITIZE ADDRESSING THEM AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE. LUCKILY BEFORE FOOTBALL SEASON WE HAD A QUICK TURNAROUND FINISHING THE FIELD GOAL AT NO COST. OUR LARGE PROJECTS TAKE TIME

WE HAD ANOTHER SURPRISE WHEN SOMEONE WAS IN OUR GAS METER. LOCALLY WE WERE ABLE TO FIX THAT WITHIN 27 HOURS. I BELIEVE FOR THE SIZE OF THE MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT WAS GONE ABOVE AND THE ON TO PRIORITIZE AND COMPLETE OUR WORK ORDERS AND PROJECTS.

WHEN WE CAN ARE ABLE TO REPAINT OVER 21,000 FT.? OF HALLWAY AND GYMNASIUM AREA AT GWC.

HERE'S A FEW EXAMPLES OF OUR WORK. DURING THANKSGIVING BREAK WE WERE ABLE TO CLEAN OUT THE BUILDING. IT IS CURRENTLY BEING USED FOR STORAGE AND STAGING FOR THE UNITS THAT IS SAID TO BE INSTALLED THIS SUMMER.

WE BASE A NUMBER ON PRE- COVID MEMBERS OF 7100 AND ATTENDANCE AND CURRENTLY WE'RE RUNNING CLOSER TO 6800 AND MOMENT. THAT'S A LOSS OF ABOUT 400 AND REFINED 88.HAT LOSS OF 400 IS ABOUT $4 MILLION WORTH OF REVENUE. THAT'S GOING TO IMPACT OUR LOCAL REVENUE AND A DECREASE OF ABOUT $4 MILLION. THIS $4 MILLION WORTH OF REVENUE IN THE GENERAL FUND WE HAVE $77 MILLION BUDGETED IN REVENUE AND THIS WILL TAKE THAT DOWN TO ABOUT $73 MILLION. THE OVERALL IMPACT TO OUR BUDGET WOULD BE A NET NEGATIVE EFFECT OF $4.3 MILLION. OUT OF OUR FUND BALANCE.
